About Me

Rick Tattersfield

My name is Rick Tattersfield. I founded Right Tack Operational Consulting to help small to mid-size industrial manufacturers and mid-market Private Equity manufacturing portfolios with practical operational, manufacturing and supply chain management support.

I’ve been an operating executive in a wide range of situations from a V.C. backed MIT spin out, a V.C. backed rapid growth Semi-conductor/Solar equipment manufacturer that went through an IPO, a Scientific Instrument manufacturing division of a multi-billion Public company.

I am perhaps best known as the ops person behind GT Solar’s growth from $60m in turnover to a $1billion in 5 years. With the 2008 financial shutdown in the middle. My team (with lots of help from GBMP and PRTM and others) were amazing.

GT is the undoubtedly the financial highlight of my working career. But I am equally proud of many less financially prominent events.

I have spent years as an Operating partner and consultant at a P.E. firm with investments in Extrusion equipment manufacturing, Paper-mills, Saw-mills, Oil-field services, Industrial Aftermarket products for the food processing and flexible packaging industries, 2 step distribution businesses, building product manufacturing and distribution, and an air conditioning duct manufacturer.

I grew up as an Operational exec. and general manager within Instron, later a division of ITW.

Proud to say that I have helped improve value creation, quality, safety and professionalism everywhere I have worked.

Let me help your business thrive by providing you a range of services from acting as a trusted thought partner through focused assessments, experience led analytics, full time project management to sweating the details to get you results, fast.

I have had a passion for making things all my life. I’m a mechanical engineer and member of the National Society of Professional Engineers. My basement is full of machines. My first job was on the production line at making switches for gaming machines.

I learned action centered leadership in the Royal Navy as an engineering officer. The conviction that it’s all about people led me to manufacturing.

A lifetime in manufacturing industry has taught me that a people focused bias to action must be tempered with thoughtful analytics and lots of planning.

Nothing gives me greater pleasure than spending time with other like minded folk who want to make the world a better place by inventing, making, marketing, selling and supporting products that solve problems people didn’t know they had.

I’ve been lucky enough to have done business with some amazing people, all over the world

And yes, I am a mariner. I am qualified for a USCG 100 ton Inland license, with sailing and assistance towing endorsements. I am a lifelong sail boat racer and tactician/navigator with ASA and RYA Certifications. I was an officer in the Royal Navy and they got to me young.
